Laying out your clothes the night before can help you save time and energy in the morning so you can focus on getting ready for the day. If you’re someone who spends a lot of time trying to figure out what to wear for the day, then prepping the night before might give you more time to sleep in or relax in the morning before work.
When was the last time you woke up feeling well-rested? Believe it or not, feeling energized and refreshed in the morning depends on more than getting quality sleep; the way you feel when you get out of bed can be impacted and improved by what you do before you hit the sheets. Here are a few things you can do before bed to prep for a better tomorrow.
One – Plan Your Outfit
Depending on the type of outfit planner you are, you may choose to do laundry every Sunday night and plan your clothes out for the entire week so you don’t have to worry about what you’re going to wear. You may also plan ahead of special events like work meetings or birthday parties days advance to help save yourself time in the future.
While you’re planning what to wear, be sure to also make decisions about accessories like a statement necklace or just the right scarf.
Two – Make Yourself Comfortable
Part of prepping for tomorrow is ensuring you get enough sleep so you can accomplish all of the tasks you need to get done the next day. Instead of rolling into bed at the end of the day, consider prepping your bed for a good night’s sleep. Make sure to grab your therapeutic body pillow, blankets, and other nighttime accessories before you get into bed for the night.
Three – Declutter
Decluttering your home can help you feel more energized and refreshed while reducing stress. After all, nobody enjoys spending time in clutter. If you look around and your home feels a little messy, consider decluttering it and putting everything in its proper place so you have a clean, safe environment to sleep in.
Decluttering before bed also gives you the freedom to wake up with one less thing to worry about in the morning so you can focus on the tasks you need to complete instead of getting caught up in clutter.
Four – Write Things Down
There are many things you can write down before bed. You may choose to keep a gratitude journal that allows you to reflect on your day and all of the things in your life you’re grateful for. You can also choose to start a list of all of the tasks you want to complete the next day. Writing things down before bed allows you to be mindful so you can focus on relaxing instead of worrying about tomorrow.
If you choose to write down your plan for the next day, you can put yourself in a better position to be productive since your plan was made the night before.
Five – Put Your Phone Down
Many people have busy lives and feel the need to be glued to their cell phones and other electronics. You may think that reading emails before bed can help you prepare for the next day, but it can hinder your sleep. Instead of reading emails, scrolling through social media, or catching up on any text messages, you missed throughout the day, consider setting a time every night when you’ll no longer touch your device. All electronic devices emit blue light that can trick your brain into thinking it’s still daytime, which makes falling asleep and staying asleep more difficult. If you truly want to prepare for tomorrow, you’ll need a quality night’s sleep, so there’s no reason to check up on emails you missed during work hours.
Six – Exercise
Every weight loss coach you’ve ever met will tell you about the benefits of a good workout. You may have noticed that as soon as you get ready for bed and get under the covers you still have tons of energy. There can be many reasons for having too much energy at the end of the night, including caffeine intake and stress. However, you might also not have been active enough throughout the day to tire your body out.
Exercising before bed can help you fall asleep faster, clear racing thoughts, and feel rejuvenated the next day. We all know the benefits of exercise, but many people don’t realize the effects it can have on them the following day. If you exercise before bed (and shower, too), you can get rid of any excess energy you have at the end of the day while helping your body relax.
And, if you’re like me and prefer to work out early in the morning know that this can still be a part of prepping for a great night’s sleep. So, don’t be afraid to experiment with exercising at different times of the day to find the timing that works best for you when it comes to sleep.
You’ll soon notice that the more you exercise, the more energy you’ll have in the morning, even if you exercised the night before.
Seven – Have Better Sleep Hygiene
The best way to prepare for tomorrow is to make sure you’re getting enough rest no matter what. A sleep hygiene routine includes all of the necessities to ensure you can fall asleep and stay asleep for the entire night. Many things go into a sleep hygiene routine, including:
-
- Room temperature lowered
- Specific activities to help you wind down like reading, washing your face, or spending a few quiet moments with your partner
- Choosing just the right sleep accessories such as an eye mask or body pillow
No matter how busy or how stressful your day can be, you should prioritize yourself and your sleep so you can be productive every day.
Eight – Do Some Meal Prep
Meal prepping is part of living a healthy lifestyle. If you’re someone who continuously skips lunch because there was no time in your morning to make yourself a meal, then consider prepping your lunch the night before so you can maintain your energy the following day.
Meal prepping can be as simple as putting leftovers away in a reusable container or building an entire healthy meal from scratch. No matter what you choose to do, prepping your meal the night before can save you time in the morning while ensuring you have a nutritious lunch to look forward to.
There is no right way to prepare for tomorrow before bed. Many factors can affect what you need to do and when you need to do it so you can have a productive day. However, there are a few ways you can start making tomorrow better tonight by preparing what you can, including your outfit and your meal, to ensure you start tomorrow with fewer tasks to worry about.
