If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that sometimes, we need to take in the wisdom of others. Whether it’s the words of a poet, like Mary Oliver or an ancient philosopher, like Rumi, there’s something about reading affirming words that can inspire you when you’re needing inspiration. Or comfort when you’re feeling blue. Over the years, I’ve gathered a spreadsheet with my favorite love life quotes cataloged.
And that’s the thing about life. Even if we love our life, there will be moments when need a push to keep doing the work to love our life even more. That’s one of the reasons I share quotes on my Twitter feed each morning and afternoon. And I also share love life quotes each morning on Facebook. Because, I know that if the words of others inspire and comfort me, they just might help you love your life, too.
One of my clients recently asked me for some of my favorite love life quotes. The ones I turn to time and time again when I need wisdom. The ones that I can’t help but share on a regular basis on social media. The love life quotes I share when a client is in need of an extra umph. After that conversation, I thought it would be fun to share them here with you.
Here twenty of my favorite love life quotes.
I’ve chose five quotes in four different categories. The reminder that loving your daily life is important. To inspire you to find your purpose. The importance of making yourself a priority. And that loving yourself (and others) is what life is all about.
Five Love Life Quotes on the Importance of Loving Your Daily Life
“Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor.”
“We can live artfully through a thousand little everyday gestures, as well as a multitude of creative pastimes. I define art in the broadest sense-it is every possible medium of human expression. It is in what you say and how you say it. It is in using the rich resources of your senses to connect with the beauty in life. The art is in the message and in the medium you use to express it. Art is simply the name for how you live your life and how you tell others what you think and feel”.
“The root of joy is gratefulness…It is not joy that makes us grateful; it is gratitude that makes us joyful.”
“I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.”
–L. M. Montgomery
“The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it. It’s our fear of the dark that casts our joy into the shadows.”
Five Love Life Quotes on Purpose
“Don’t let other people’s ideas of success and good or meaningful work filter your perception of what you want to do. Listen to your heart and mind’s purpose; keep listening to that and even when the “shoulds” get really loud, try to stay in touch with what you hear within yourself.
“Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn’t impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls.”
“I do not at all understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.”
“Our lives can be considered a sacred quest. It is a quest which may have begun in this lifetime or many lifetimes before. It is a quest to find ourselves: who and what we really are. To do this we must first cease to pretend to be what we are not. We must cast away our Persona or mask. We must be prepared to confront the Shadow, that which we are and rather were not. Only then can we unify our conscious and unconscious minds and so give birth to the hidden Sun – the Self.”
“The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.”
Five Love Life Quotes on Making Yourself a Priority
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through the process is the greatest thing we will ever do.”
“The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours. It is an amazing journey, and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.”
“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.”
“Do you know what you are? You are a manuscript of a divine letter. You are a mirror reflecting a noble face. This universe is not outside of you. Look inside yourself; everything that you want, you are already that.”
“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.”
–Rainer Maria Rilke
Five Love Life Quotes on Loving Yourself & Others
“Perhaps love is the process of my leading you gently back to yourself”
–Antoine de Saint-Exupery
“Forgiveness is a strange thing. It can sometimes be easier to forgive our enemies than our friends. It can be hardest of all to forgive people we love. Like all of life’s important coping skills, the ability to forgive and the capacity to let go of resentments most likely take root very early in our lives.”
“You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.”
“Souls love. That’s what souls do. Egos don’t, but souls do. Become a soul, look around, and you’ll be amazed-all the beings around you are souls. Be one, see one. When many people have this heart connection, then we will know that we are all one, we human beings all over the planet. We will be one. One love. And don’t leave out the animals, and trees, and clouds, and galaxies-it’s all one. It’s one energy.”
“Feeling good about ourselves is essential in our being able to love others.”
