We all know how stressful life can be. Between work, family, and social obligations, it can be hard to find time to relax. But it’s important to make time for self-care, or you end up feeling burnt out. But I know it’s not always easy to know how you can make more time for yourself Let alone find the time to do so. That’s why I’m here to help.

How to Make Time for Self-Care

It can be tough to find moments for self-care during a busy day. But making time for activities that nurture your mind, body, and soul is essential for maintaining your health and well-being.  The best way to get started is to make caring for yourself a part of your regular routines.

To do this, carve out some self-care time with habit stacking. What I mean by this is look at the habits you’ve already created and add some time to nourish yourself as an add-on to an existing habit.

For example, in the morning add a conditioning treatment to your daily shower. Or pair reading with your morning coffee. Actually take your lunch break or go for a walk outdoors. Another option is to, in the evening, take a hot bath or write in a journal.

Five Ways You Can Prioritize Self-Care to Help Manage Stress

One – Get Enough Sleep

Most adults need around eight hours of sleep per night. But with busy schedules, it can be tough to get the recommended amount. If you’re having trouble sleeping, try establish a bedtime routine that includes winding down for 30 minutes before turning out the light. And make sure to keep electronics out of the bedroom—the blue light from screens can interfere with sleep.

Two – Eat Healthy

A nutritious diet is important for both our physical and mental health. Be sure to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in your diet. And limit sugary and fatty foods, which can contribute to feelings of anxiety and low energy.

Three – Exercise

Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. A moderate amount of exercise is the key—too much can actually increase stress levels. So find an activity that you enjoy and stick to a regular schedule. Taking a brisk walk in your neighborhood or going for a bike ride are great options for getting some fresh air and staying active.

Four – Take Breaks

When we’re constantly on the go, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Make sure to schedule in some down time each day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. During your break, do something calming, like reading or listening to music. Or use the time to connect with friends or family members—social support is crucial for managing stress levels.

Five – Practice Deep Breathing

Deep breathing is a simple but effective way to calm nerves and ease anxiety. To try it, sit up straight with your eyes closed and place one hand on your stomach while inhaling deeply through your nose. As you exhale, slowly release the breath through your mouth while counting to five in your head. Repeat this process several times until you feel more relaxed.

You, my darling, are a finite resource. Self-care is the way we refill the vessel that is made of our mind, body, and spirit. Self-care, is how we refresh ourselves.
