Whether you are traveling for work or fun. Or simply running errands as part of managing your life, remaining prepared and comfortable while on the go is essential. To ensure you’re ready for whatever comes your way, you’ll need a few essentials to keep you prepared on your commute to work or a quick trip to the bank.

I want to share twelve must-have items when you’re on the go to make your day more comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable.

One – High Quality Backpack

If you’re always on the move, you need a high-quality backpack to hold your goods and remain intact. A high-quality pack makes durability its priority and is constructed to last. Consider durable materials that can withstand everyday wear and tear. Your backpack should also have ergonomics in mind and evenly distribute weight to reduce neck, back, and shoulder strain. If you hold all the items you need for the day in your backpack, you should consider options with excellent organizational features. Look for a bag with multiple compartments and pockets to stay organized and avoid wasting time searching for a specific item. A quality backpack is also versatile, meaning you can use it for your work commute, travel, hiking, and more, so you make a practical and cost-effective investment.

Two – Reusable Water Bottle

When you’re on the go, it’s essential to stay hydrated. Reusable water bottles are a critical item to pack for a busy day. When moving from place to place, you might not have time to stop at a water fountain or a place to purchase some water. Consider how much water you drink daily, and get a reusable bottle to accommodate your hydration needs. If lugging around a water bottle doesn’t seem practical, you can find bottle holders to attach to your backpack or strap on your shoulder so you don’t have to carry it around by hand.

Four – Portable Charger

A portable charger is another essential accessory for when you’re on the go. Portable chargers allow you to charge your electronic devices when you don’t have access to a power outlet. If you spend many hours outside the house, a portable charger provides a power backup to ensure your devices remain charged. Portable chargers also save time by powering your devices while on the move and give you peace of mind knowing you won’t get caught with a dead battery. Portable chargers are a must-have item when you’re on the go because they offer convenience, backup protection, and peace of mind knowing you can stay connected without worrying about running out of power.

Five – Headphones

Whether you opt for earbuds or on-ear noise-canceling headphones, headphones are essential for anyone on the go. Headphones allow you to listen to auditory content and pass the time while on the move. Additionally, headphones provide privacy allowing you to listen without disturbing others around you. If you enjoy focusing by blocking out external noise, headphones let you work and study, no matter how noisy your environment is. Headphones also allow you to make and receive phone calls whenever you are.

Six – Travel First-aid Kit

Consider packing a travel-sized first aid kit in your backpack. By carrying a first-aid kit with you, you remain prepared for unexpected events. For example, if you feel a migraine approaching at work, you’ll be glad you packed some aspirin with you. Additionally, while moving from place to place, an accident is bound to happen. By carrying Band-Aids, disinfectant wipes, tweezers, Neosporin, and more, you can easily take care of accidents and ensure you get the minor medical attention you need.

Seven – Sunscreen

When you’re on the go, you likely spend some time in the sun. Anytime you leave the house, ensure you pack sunscreen. Even while on the move, you need to keep your skin protected from the sun. Including it in your backpack ensures you have what you need to reapply sunscreen throughout the day and avoid a painful sunburn.

Eight – Snacks

If you spend a ton of time out of the house, include some snacks and food in your on-the-go pack. When you have a big day ahead of you, it’s a challenge to find time to stop and get a meal in. However, it’s essential to get the nutrition and sustenance you need to feel energized throughout the day. Consider packing protein bars, nuts, fruit, and other energizing snacks to keep hunger at bay until your next meal.

Nine – Tote Bag

If you plan on getting some errands out of the way while out and about, you should also pack a reusable tote or grocery bag to hold your extra items. You never know when the urge to shop will strike, and you’ll be glad you have an extra bag to carry things that don’t fit into your backpack. I especially like to do this when traveling as it makes a quick grocery run so much easier!

Ten – Tissues

Tissues are another important item to include in your daily-use backpack. You never know when a bout of allergies or a cold will strike, and you’ll be glad to have packed some extra tissues. Tissues also will come in handy if you find yourself in a bathroom without toilet paper. In addition to tissues, consider packing some extra napkins or paper towels in case you make a mess or need something to hold some food in.

Eleven – Pocket Knife

A pocket knife is a versatile tool that can come in handy while on the go.  Pocket knives are small and convenient tools to have on hand, especially in emergencies. Additionally, pocket knives can serve as self-defense tools in emergencies where you need to protect yourself. Lastly, pocket knives are cost-effective because rather than buying multiple tools, they come all in one and can last decades with proper care.

Twelve – Backup Shoes and Clothes

Lastly, you should pack up a pair of comfortable backup shoes and clothes in your backpack. Having backup clothing like a spare jacket helps you remain prepared for unexpected weather changes, such as rain or high winds. If you get a stain on your shirt, spare quality t-shirts to quickly change into can save you from wearing a dirty shirt all day. Additionally, if you have to wear dress shoes for work, having a more comfortable pair of sneakers to change into during your commute home will help keep your feet comfortable on your stroll home.

Just a secret: when I travel internationally, I always pack a pair of slippers in my carryon bag!

Being Prepared While on the Go

Being on the go can be unpredictable, but with the right tools, you can tackle any challenge or circumstance in your day. From portable chargers to a pair of backup clothes and shoes, these must-have items can help you stay organized, connected, prepared, and comfortable. So the next time you’re leaving the house for the day, keep these items in mind.
