There’s something about the change in seasons that begs for pulling out blankets and sos_advertisementsettling in for marathons of Angel  or Mad Men…and reading all those summer novels you swore you were going to read, but didn’t. And, baby, I am all for some leisure time and play. But, I also know that it’s quite possible that the urge to hide under the blankets and keep your mind busy is really so that you are better able to avoid your piles.

You know.  Those piles.

The piles of filing on your desk, the stack of magazines you’re saving to create that vision board, the piles of mismatched cans and boxes in your pantry and the piles of clothes on your closet floor. And, of course, you are compelled to move the piles, straighten the piles, and stick the piles in drawers to deal with later.

So, here’s the real deal, kitten: hanging on to these piles causes stress and drains your energy.  Hanging onto these piles creates work, adds to your to-do list, and adds layers of guilt to your heart.

And piles grow.  They grow into full-blown clutter.

They turn into you not wanting unexpected company or needing a frenzied three-day weekend to prepare for guests (or the holidays).

Those piles turn into soul-sucking, energy-draining tethers that keep you from becoming the person you are meant to be. Every pile you step around (or trip over) keeps you from creating the life you most desire.

Pretending that the piles don’t exist can work for a little while, but not for the long haul. Sure, you can go on vacation and leave the piles behind.

But eventually, more of your energy and more of your focus are drained.

Tackling your piles keeps them from draining you. Clearing clutter hones your focus and allows you to put your time, energy, and precious attention towards creating the life you desire (and deserve).

Want to know what attacking those piles and clearing clutter really does, darling? Clearing clutter creates freedom.

The freedom of clear, unfettered thinking. The freedom to create what you desire in your daily life. The freedom to pursue your dreams. The freedom to create a home that nourishes you.

If you do nothing else for yourself before Thanksgiving, choose one area of your home and make it a sanctuary.  Tackle the piles.  Clear up those undone tasks. Complete what’s half done. Clear clutter from your space so that you can walk and breathe.

Allow yourself a taste of freedom.

Because, darling, it’s time to live a life you love.

Have these inspiring Decluttering, Housekeeping, and Organization quotes put you in the mood to clear some clutter?

One of the biggest lessons I have learned is that you cannot welcome new things into your life if you don’t release some of the old stuff. You need to begin to purge things from your life. Getting clear in your life by dealing with your physical clutter (big clutter and small clutter) will allow you to direct your precious energy towards creating the clear path to living your best possible life.
