A lot of people prefer to see the world through the lens of a city break. City breaks are perfect for cramming in plenty of activities in a short period of time – seeing as you just need to traipse back and forth around the city – meaning you can get real bang for your buck.

But when the average city break has people in and out within 3 days, how can you be sure you’re going to get to do the full itinerary you set yourself? Some cities are pretty large and dense, and there’s no telling if that traffic jam is going to ruin your plans for your vacation!

As such, here are some tips for ensuring you get to cross off all the must-sees on your visit bucket list.

Don’t Be Afraid to Get on Public Transport

A lot of people don’t get to see as much of a city as they’d really like to thanks to a distrust of any unknown public transport. And we do understand here – if you don’t know where you need to get off, it can be a bit anxiety-inducing to hop on the bus and let it take you somewhere.

But even with that in mind, if there’s a public transport system that goes all over the city in 15 minute intervals, you should definitely get yourself a ticket. Take some time to research the tickets on offer, but if there’s an all-day variety, we recommend just grabbing that.

Book as Central a Hotel as Possible

Now this doesn’t have to mean the hotel is actually central – that might make the cost of a room pretty pricey! However, you do need to know where the places you really want to visit are and how far they are away from each other.

For someone in Detroit that might mean searching for hotels near Henry Ford Museum, or for someone in Anaheim it could mean looking for a hotel that’s near Disney California Adventure.

Wherever you’re going, an easily accessible hotel, no matter where you are, ensures you don’t waste time trying to get into the city center or then out to the suburbs at the end of the day.

Extend Your Trip By a Day or Two

Sometimes we try to fit too much in and come away feeling unsatisfied. As such, the number one thing to do when you’re on a city break is to take a bit more of a break! It might be a bit more expensive, but if you’re not going away again, it’s worth it.

So, if you’re going away for the weekend, why not take Monday as well? If you’re going away midweek, why not come back on Saturday instead? Give yourself a day or two more while you’re away and you will definitely get to see everything on your list.

Just booked yourself a city break? Let’s make sure you get to see and do as much as you really want to!
