As we approach middle age and beyond, it is not unusual for us to start finding life overly full of tasks. Yet, less fulfilling than we thought it would be. Where is the zest we had for living life to the fullest? Or our sense of adventure?  The good news is, whether you are 35 or 75, there are lots of things you can do to make life fulfilling again.

One – Shift Your Career

Our jobs are often one of the things that we are most frustrated with as we get older. Most of us choose our career paths when we are in our twenties. And frankly, we probably don’t really know what we want in life. Or what we will find fulfilling as we mature.

The good thing about living in 2023, though, is that it has never been easier to retrain and learn new skills. Thanks to the internet and the many remote learning opportunities available to us, this means careers we might never have thought of in our teens are now more than open to us.

So be brave! Make the change and find work that is more enjoyable. And more meaningful to us more mature adults.

Two – Let Go of The Past

If you want life to be more fulfilling, you need to stop dwelling on things that have gone wrong in the past. Rather, start focusing on what you have in the here and now. Making peace with the reality of what is (aka your old pal acceptance) can help you move forward. Letting go of past choices you didn’t take or mistakes you made opens you up to feel more empowered. And happier.

Three – Keep Learning

If you want to be fulfilled, be a lifelong learner. If you stop learning when you leave college or once you’ve secured that big promotion that you think will set you up for life, you will miss out on so many opportunities, most of them unexpected, and you will end up stagnating. Whether you learn to program or you learn how to do yoga, make sure you always have a new learning project on the go.

Four – Stop Worrying About What Other People Think

One of the most empowering things you can do is this: don’t worry about what others think. When you are constantly worrying about what other people think about you, then the choices you make will never really be your own. Letting go of the fear of being negatively judged opens up a whole new world. So, no matter what you choose to do in the future, you’ll have the freedom to simply enjoy life. No matter what others might think.

We all deserve to live the most fulfilling lives possible, so if you are not feeling truly fulfilled right now, think about what you can do to make a change today.
