As a new mama (mother), I absolutely dreaded the time when my partner had to go back to work. It meant taking care of the baby and doing the chores all alone and running on zero sleep.
I remember I felt like a zombie. From hourly feedings, to never-ending bottle refills, and the smelly diaper bin. I felt like I could not get a break. Not to forget, my post-partum depression was brutal too! I could not believe that the baby I couldn’t wait to have in my arms was now someone I barely got to spend time with, thanks to never-ending chores.
That was until my friend got tired of my whining and sent me a bunch of Amazon links, and my life felt sorted within a week!
So, in the spirit of the new-mom hermandad (sisterhood), I am sharing some gadgets below that every new mom should have. Not only will you catch a breath, you will also get to spend time with the baby while kicking post-partum blues in the butt!
1. Smart Bassinet
Mobility, post-partum, is no joke. Even if you are living through the after-effects of a C-section or perineal tears, moving around is a pain for a couple of months. Not to forget, the consistently low energy level. This can make it difficult to rock your baby to sleep.
A smart bassinet is the answer to woes. Such bassinets automatically detect your baby fussing around before waking up and are prompted to start rocking or vibrating, which can help soothe your baby back to sleep. Some smart bassinets have other features as well, like built-in swaddles and noise machines.
However, the main reason I am recommending smart bassinets is their app-based connectivity. Some smart moisés (bassinets) can be controlled through your smartphones. So, they need 24/7 reliable internet connectivity.
I used the Snoo Smart Sleeper Bassinet and loved that I could control it from my kitchen while doing other chores. It greatly improved my bub’s sleep since he loved being rocked.
Funnily, I remember this one night when I heard my bub crying and the app didn’t notify me because of an internet outage. 3. Automatic Bottle Washer
If you ask me, bottle lavado (washing) is the most tedious task ever. If you think you can keep your baby’s bottles washed and sterilized all the time, think again, because your little cherub will demand every second of your day. And when you do finally get to bottle washing, it’ll feel like each bottle has a million parts.
This is why I suggest investing in an automatic bottle washer right from the start. These gadgets automatically wash and dry your baby’s bottles without you having to scrub and wash off every part manually. Some bottle washers even sterilize bottles after washing and then dry them as well.
These are great, especially if you pump as well. Because they also wash, clean, sterilize, and dry pump parts as well. By automating the tedious chore of bottle washing, you can spend a little bit more time with your baby before they grow up to be a little monster.
