A tidy, clean home can have a real effect on your mindset, helping you to feel lighter and with a clearer mind. You can create a much better atmosphere at home with some deep cleaning or a good clear out. Changing up your home a little can help to change your mindset if you’re in a rut. Here’s how you can refresh your home and your mind at the same time.

It’s especially important to refresh your home before the holiday season arrives. This will allow you to enjoy your friends and family rather than stress out when you’re ready to host folks for parties and other gatherings.

One – Declutter and Refresh Your Wardrobe

Take all your clothes out of the wardrobe and look at each item individually. Is there anything that is worn out or doesn’t fit properly anymore? Get rid of it. Don’t keep clothes to slim into, as they’ll only make you feel worse. Anything that doesn’t make you happy to wear should go.

While you’re in your closet, examine the dressier clothes you save for holiday parties. Now’s the time to ditch what you don’t love and take note of what you might need to add to your closet to be party ready.

When you’ve finished, put everything back into the wardrobe with the hanger facing the wrong way. When you wear an item, return it to the wardrobe with the hanger the right way. This way, you can easily see what you wear and don’t wear.

Two – Clean Your Carpets

Hire a Steamaster and give the carpets a really deep clean. Even if you’re on top of the hoovering, you’d be surprised how much dirt gets trodden into your carpets, leaving them looking dingier and darker than they should. A deep clean will lift them back to a brighter state, making your home feel lighter.

And if you’re wanting to keep your carpets looking good throughout the holiday season, invest in one of these budget-friendly robot vacuum cleaners for your home. That way, it will do the work for you!

Three – Tidy Up and Refresh Your Kitchen Cupboards

Take everything out and sort through it. Is there anything out of date that’s been lurking in the back of the cupboard? Are you overrun with tins of tomatoes that you’ll never get through? Get rid of anything you can’t remember buying, or don’t want anymore. You can sort everything back into the cupboard in a better system so you can get at it much better.

If you have seasonal dishes, now’s the time to do some rearranging of your cabinets so those are within reach.

If your kitchen is better organized, you’ll be able to find what you want much quicker, making cooking less stressful. Put things like spices onto racks that revolve, so you can store them together but easily put your hand to the right spice.

Four – Examine Your Decorative Items

Do you have seasonal decorations? I’m not just talking about your Christmas Tree and stockings. I’m talking about things like a special Halloween candy bowl, fall floral arrangements, and favorite Santa figurines. In order to easily decorate, begin first with what you keep out year round. Yes, tidy up and refresh those bookshelves, your mantle, and end tables.

Don’t hesitate to get rid of items you don’t love. Or no longer fit your sense of style. And then, this gives you space to add back fresher items. Like plants or a new lamp.

Five – Refresh Your Walls by Repainting

When was the last time you repainted the walls? Even if you don’t choose a new color, a fresh coat of paint refreshes the house a lot, making things seem lighter and brighter in a very easy, cheap way.

Six – Rearrange the furniture.

A change of layout can really change the feel of a room, and jolt you out of your comfort zone. Try switching your bed to a different wall, or change around the layout of your living room. Move a chair into the window for reading in the sun, or move the sofa so the television isn’t the focus point of the room. Buy something new like another bookcase for your books, or a new coffee table to add something new to a room.
